Fountain Valley, Orange County
Fountain Valley is named for the artesian wells that once bubbled up across this low-lying part of Orange County, an area early settlers called Gospel Swamp. Farmers drained the land for beans and sugar beets, and the community incorporated in 1957 just as housing tracts arrived. The city motto, A Nice Place to Live, dates from those years.
